Anthony Joseph Hoffman

Anthony Hoffman was born in Germany. He lived in France for a time and in the early 1800's signed up to fight for the French for Napoleon against the British. He was a Captain in the French army fighting in the Napoleonic wars when he was captured on 15 August 1809 and brought over to England by sea for interrogation as a prisioner of war. Anthony fell in love with a local girl, Elizabeth Peach where he had been living after the war, in Ashby de la Zouch, Leicestershire, England. This is noted on his marriage certificate details. He was one of about 20 prisioners of war who settled in the Ashby de la Zouch area. Anthony never went back to his place of birth in Germany, and stayed in England until his death 3 years after his dear wife. I have been given some personal information, with notes he wrote after his wife's Elizabeth, death, and the family have some personal possessions of Anthony's , information kindly provided by another genes tree member and also a descendant, grateful acknowledgement to Sarah Clarke for her kind help.
